School Wellness Policies

The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 required all school districts (that recieve funding for school lunch programs) to develop wellness policies by 2006-07 school year. Wellness policies must include goals for nutrition and physical education as well as guidelines for foods and beverages served throughout the school campus.

NonFood Reward Contest for Teachers

Food is commonly used to reward students for good behavior and academic performance. Using food as reward can have negative consequences that go far beyond the short term benefits of good behavior or performance. It can compromise learning, contribute to poor health, poor eating habits, a preference for sweets and overconsumption.
